Undersea Cables Cut

Five undersea cables carrying internet and phone traffic have been cut over the past 10 days or so. When I heard about the first two, I figured it was an accident, they were relatively close together.
But 3 more? All around the waters of the Middle East?

Once again, the mainstream media has hardly reported on this story. Makes me think something is going on behind the scenes.

Alan Caruba's Modest Proposal

Well, somebody had to say it:

"I have a suggestion. Let’s import Israel’s Jews. Let’s offer them all passage to America and a fast track to citizenship. The United States has absorbed an estimated twelve to twenty million illegal Mexican, Caribbean, and South American aliens with hardly a whimper. Why not six million of the most talented people in the world, one of the highest concentrations of brainpower to be found anywhere?

Yes, this means abandoning Israel to the Arabs, but Israel is so small the entire landmass could sink into Lake Michigan and never been seen again. In one stroke, America would have defused the so-called “reason” that the Middle East is in such turmoil. "

Would this be caving in to terrorists/Islamic Fundamentalists? I think so, and I don't think this will possibly happen. But, it is interesting to juxtapose illegal immigration with a solution for Middle East problems, and I encourage thinking big. Interesting article....

Update: Just heard from Mr. Caruba:
"Nice photos! And let me compliment you on your blog's link to my Human Events commentary about the Israelis, but don't you think North Carolina would be an ideal place to stick those 6 million folks? It would be a real estate boom! Throw in a couple of synagogues and you have the makings of a couple of towns. But we both know they won't leave. I worry about them. Happy Holidays!"

American sub spied on Israel

IMRA - Sunday, June 5, 2005 American sub spied on Israel:

As a previous post mentioned, we have a strange relationship with our close ally Israel, and it cuts both ways.

Israel Television Channel Two military affairs correspondent Ronnie Daniel
revealed this evening that the submarine Israel chased from its territorial
waters last November was an American spy sub. The vessel was identified by
the Israeli Navy 18 kilometers from shore near Haifa, and fled shortly after
discovery. IDF commanders admitted it wasn't the first time a Western
submarine had been intercepted spying on Israel.

Daniel indicated that Israel does not know what the spy sub was focusing on."

'Liberty' Survivors Can Never Forget

'Liberty' Survivors Can Never Forget:

"In 1967, Liberty was the most sophisticated intelligence-gathering or spy ship in the U.S. fleet. On June 8, during the Six Day War involving Israel and its neighbors, Liberty was in international waters of the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of the Sinai Peninsula when it was attacked without warning by Israeli aircraft and torpedo boats.

The attacks on the lightly armed vessel began with aircraft cannon, rocket and machine gun fire, and napalm. Following the air strikes, Liberty took a torpedo amidship. When crewmen lowered life rafts to rescue personnel and in preparation for abandoning ship if necessary, the torpedo boats machine-gunned the life rafts and crewmen.

All told, the attacks lasted a little over two hours. During that time, Liberty 's calls for help reached the U.S. Sixth Fleet, despite Israeli jamming efforts, and the carriers Saratoga and America launched aircraft to assist the beleaguered vessel. But that help never arrived. The aircraft were recalled on direct orders from the White House."

I'd never heard about this incident...
